With those big ears, nose twitches, and cute little tails, rabbits have been popular fictional characters AND pets for a LONG time. Rabbits, commonly called bunnies, are fun loving little creatures that jump right into the hearts and homes of many families.
Why? Bunnies make an excellent choice for a pet! They are small, inexpensive, and quiet. This makes them a perfect pet for a variety of homes. Rabbits need daily attention and socialization, but do not require as much time as some other pets. They do well in a roomy cage, but they need to get out and run around when you're at home. They can even be potty trained, so there's no need to worry about "presents" all over the house! Rabbits also have pleasant personalities. Spaying or neutering your rabbit will help reduce moodiness and make them more loving and gentle.
Rabbits LOVE to chew on things. Did you know their teeth are constantly growing? This is the reason it's so important to provide your bunny with lots of safe toys, blocks of wood, or flavored chew sticks. It's also important to bunny proof your house before letting your new companion roam around. Properly store all electrical cords, chemicals and anything else you don't want chewed on out of their reach.
As odd as it sounds, bunnies are great communicators. They can let you know how they are feeling. If they furiously pound their feet, that may be a sign your pet is unhappy. However if they jump, twist and flip around, almost like dancing, they are happy and content.
Although rabbits may not require as much attention as some animals, they do require a responsible loving owner who will provide them with love, exercise and nutrients. Just like any pet, you need to thoroughly research and make informative decisions before adopting. When bunnies have plenty of attention, food, and exercise they can provide endless entertainment for you!
